The Social Committee of the project “Green Spirit of Activity. Hajnówka – A New Era of Development” has begun its activities

The inaugural meeting of the Social Committee of the project “Green Spirit of Activity. Hajnówka – A New Era of Development” took place on 6 August at the City Hall. The Committee brings together representatives of local institutions, social organisations and residents. Its task will be to support the implementation of the project, exchange experiences and involve various communities in the process of the city’s development.

Appointment documents presented to Committee members

During the first part of the meeting, the Mayor of Hajnówka presented the members of the Committee with their letters of appointment. The Committee includes representatives of institutions and organisations working for the development of the city and the region, as well as residents representing different age groups.

“Thank you for joining this project. You want to work with us, share your knowledge and experience regarding the tasks, programmes and projects we will implement. I hope that together we will choose the best solutions for this project,” said the Mayor of the City.

The members of the Social Committee are:

  • Piotr Glinka – Director of Xylopolis – Centre for Art and Science of Wood,
  • Monika Sawicka – Hajnówka Forest District,
  • Krzysztof Leończuk – Centre for Supporting Non-Governmental Organisations in Białystok,
  • Olimpia Pabian – Białowieża National Park,
  • Urszula Anna Augustynowicz – Primary School No. 1 named after Janusz Kusociński,
  • Jolanta Birycka – District Labour Office in Hajnówka,

  • Marta Wilson-Trochimczyk – representative of residents aged over 60,
  • Nela Szczuka – representative of residents aged over 60.

Such a diverse composition of the Committee is intended to enable the project to be viewed from many perspectives – institutional, social, educational, environmental and those of the residents.

Joint work for the development of Hajnówka

During the meeting, the main assumptions of the project “Green Spirit of Activity. Hajnówka – A New Era of Development” and the planned directions of activities were also presented.

“This is not a project of the city hall, the mayor and the team alone. It really is a project which, as the Swiss wish, infects more than one entity. In other words, it is not only a municipal project, but an openly accessible project implemented by authorised entities. And the Swiss, just like the Norwegians before them, implement these projects in this predefined way,” emphasised Agnieszka Dawydzik from the Association of Polish Cities.

Agnieszka Dawydzik, an advisor from the Association of Polish Cities, spoke about the role of the Social Committee, its competences and the principles of its functioning. The meeting was an opportunity to familiarise the Committee members with their tasks and the importance of social involvement in the implementation of the undertakings planned in the project.

“You are a kind of bridge; you are selected people representing specific communities. This is meant, among other things, to make it easier for you to consult someone, reach someone, or invite someone as a specialist in a given area or topic,” explained Agnieszka Dawydzik.

The Social Committee will play an important role in the process of implementing the project. Its activities are intended primarily to serve dialogue, the exchange of experiences, consultation of actions and the strengthening of the participation of residents and local communities in the process of changes taking place in the city.

Committee authorities elected

During the inaugural meeting, elections for the authorities of the Social Committee were also held. Jarosław Trochimczyk, representing the University of the Third Age Association, was unanimously elected Chair of the Social Committee. The position of Deputy Chair of the Social Committee was assumed by Marta Chmielińska, representative of the A La Longue Cultural Association.

The newly elected authorities will coordinate the work of the Committee and, together with its members, set the directions for further action.

City Councillors of Hajnówka also took part in the meeting and had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the assumptions of the project and the activities of the newly appointed Committee.

Further tasks ahead of the Committee

The inaugural meeting marked the beginning of the Social Committee’s activities. In the coming months, its members will engage in work related to the implementation of the project “Green Spirit of Activity. Hajnówka – A New Era of Development”.

The project envisages a series of activities responding to the most important challenges and needs of Hajnówka – related, among other things, to the development of local entrepreneurship, education, green transformation, social services, activation of residents and improvement of the quality of life.

The Social Committee is to be an important place for dialogue and cooperation – so that the changes taking place in Hajnówka are not only a response to the city’s challenges, but also the result of the joint involvement of its residents and local partners.
