Study Visit to Switzerland

In the last week of November 2025, representatives of Polish cities – finalists of the Polish-Swiss City Development Programme – including the Municipality of Hajnówka represented by Deputy Mayor Barbara Sadowska – the Association of Polish Cities, the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy, and the Embassy of Switzerland in Poland took part in a study visit to Aarau and Bern.

The participants learned about Swiss solutions in the field of climate change adaptation, mobility and social services. Aarau presented activities related to mapping heat islands, greening the city and cooperation with residents. Bern presented its consistently developed “city for people” policy and its extensive cycling infrastructure as part of “Velo Hauptstadt”.

Meeting zones, reclaiming streets for residents and the widespread use of pilot projects and public consultations made a strong impression. The participants also visited the Aarau Nord Family Centre and learned about a mobile work project with seniors focused on prevention and counteracting loneliness.

The visit confirmed that, despite different realities, Poland and Switzerland face similar challenges, and that a long-term, participatory approach brings lasting results.
